How security deposits work

A security deposit is a one-time payment you make when you rent a place. The landlord keeps the money until you move out. Then you should get the money back. But, the landlord can keep the deposit if you owe money for rent or repairs.

Some Tennessee counties have different rules about security deposits. Click on the button next to the name of the county you live in.
